We know winter is just around the corner, and that brings some mixed emotions for some. Here at Chameleon Colors, we definitely enjoyed the sunshine and helping to throw colorful parties, races, and events. And while some of us might be mourning the end of warm weather, don’t let the snow keep you homebound in monochromatic boredom. You can still make colorful and exciting memories with snow painting parties!
The Chameleon Colors’ Snow Painting Kit and Snowman Painting Kit are great tools to make sure the fun doesn’t stop with the impending snow. The color powder doesn’t melt the snow, so everyone can enjoy creating colorful masterpieces on the snowfall’s blank canvas. Unlike many favorite wintertime pastimes, anyone of any age can join the fun! So if you’re looking for a fun winter activity for your toddler, teenager, great-grandparents, or anyone in between, this is the place for you. There are so many other benefits of hosting a snow painting party, but first, we’ll explain what a snow painting party is and what you’ll need to host one.
What is a Snow Painting Party?
A snow painting party is a way to celebrate winter and creativity by painting the snow! The only required supplies are powdered snow paint. Chameleon Colors has two options: the Snow Paint Kit or the Snowman Painting Kit! Either of these kits will paint the snow, but the Snowman Painting kit also comes with accessories for a dashing snowman. For other Snow Painting Party recommendations check out our blog, What You’ll Need For a Snow Painting Party.
Color powder is a fine-colored powder that can “paint” the snow. While there are different ways to be creative with the color powder, we recommend putting the powder into squeeze bottles (included in the Chameleon Colors kits) or condiment bottles.
To host a snow painting party, you’ll need guests, of course! When you send invitations, communicate that this will be an outdoor activity so your guests can be prepared for the weather. (Note: color powder is not intended to dye clothing, but it can stain when mixed with water–or in this case, snow–so avoid using it with white or pastel-colored snow clothes.)
You can have an artistic free-for-all where guests can create snow designs however they’d like, or come up with fun games like snow pictionary, a themed snowman building competition, or even tic-tac-snow!
So now that we know what a snow painting party is, let’s dive into some of the benefits of snow painting parties.
Screen-free Winter Activity
The cold weather can limit how much time our kids spend outside, and while we don’t judge parents for using screen time to alleviate cabin fever (we’ve all been there!) this activity will help everyone enjoy the cold weather without a screen. Not only is this a parenting win, but it’s also great for boosting mental wellness in children and teens!
And for teenagers who don’t want to separate from their beloved handheld device, they can create fun TikTok videos or Instagram-worthy posts in the snow to encourage some active play! (Baby steps, right?)
A Colorful Social Opportunity
A snow painting party is a unique opportunity to help children and adults expand their social circles. Children can invite friends from school or their community to participate in the fun. Organizing a neighborhood party could be a great way to get to know neighbors of every age and background.
Snow painting parties can also be a great way to encourage kids and teens to surprise their friends with a special message. While some teens may use toilet paper or similar objects to prank their friends in the morning, snow paint is a kinder and fun way to leave uplifting messages and pictures in the snow. (Plus it’s a lot easier to clean up!)
Break up the Winter Boredom
Winter can be exciting for a couple of weeks, but it also can become dreadfully boring after the holidays. Shaking up the routine to include a snow painting party is the perfect antidote for getting through the dreary and snowy winter months. Especially for kids and teens who don’t participate in snow sports, planning a snow painting party could be just what they need to add some color to their lives—literally!
Part of the fun with snow painting parties is the planning! It’s a great idea to have your kids involved in the party planning. Let them help you choose guest lists, activity plans, and snow or rainbow-themed snack ideas. They may surprise you with their creativity!
Fun Way to Stay Active
Whether your children are athletes, artists, or a unique mix of both, snow painting parties are a great way to encourage your children to get some fresh air and play outside. If you have more of an artistic group, try setting up a timed picture competition or playing a few rounds of Pictionary. If your group is more active, you could use the snow paint to create kickball boundaries and bases or even a Capture the Flag arena. For a fun mix of the two, build creative snowmen and have the kids decorate them to their hearts’ content!
Another idea is to plan stations at your party. Give 20 minutes for each rotation with a unique activity at each station. You can ring a bell, play a timer, or blast fun music to signal a switch. At the end of the party, you can gather to eat healthy refreshments and warm drinks.
Colorful Learning Activity
Do you have preschool-aged children at home? Snow painting can be a perfect way to help teach colors in a new and exciting way. Toddlers and preschoolers will love having a large snow canvas that they can decorate as they learn principles like naming different colors, remembering the colors of common objects, and even identifying primary and secondary colors. Snow painting can also be a fun winter activity for homeschool families! Children of all ages will love exploring this new art medium and expanding their usual curriculum. You can team up with other homeschooling families in your area to put on a snow painting extravaganza.
Simple Clean Up
Chameleon Colors color powders are all nontoxic and environmentally friendly! All of the dyes are also FD&C and D&C approved. This means that once the colorful snow melts into the grass, your masterpieces will also disappear in an environmentally safe way. While we love using our color powders for color wars in the warmer months, and it could still be a fun wintertime activity, the color powders mixed with the snow can stain clothing and temporarily stain skin and hair. We recommend throwing our other color powders in dry conditions and using the snow painting kit supplies with the snow!
Whether you want your kids to expand their social circles, enjoy the fresh air, or just have fun, snow painting parties are a fun and unique way to celebrate the snow! Chameleon Colors snow painting kits are an exciting and easy way to help your child release their inner artist with a giant snow canvas! With unlimited options for open-ended play, hosting a snow painting party will be at the top of your family’s wintertime bucket list!
